Sapporo is the fifth largest city with a population of 1.89 million in Japan, situated at 43° North latitude and 140° East longitude.
The temparature during the day in late August is in the mid-twenties Celsius and is ideal for visiting the city.
The city center in the downtown area is about a 10 min walk from the Conference Venue and from the JR Station.
More than 60% of the city is mountainous with lush greenery.
The city's numerous parks, such as Odori Park running from east to west through downtown,
provide endless recreational opportunities for citizens.
Sapporo has been a key role in Hokkaido's development for more than 130 years, that means the City is a gateway to the other parts of the island in terms of tourism, too. Hokkaido island is an excellent destination for both domestic and international travelers. Railway and Intercity Bus service cover the major tourist spots, and it is a good idea to drive around the island if you bring your international driving license.
Summer activities like golfing, trekking, horseback riding, rafting, and also you will definitely love the taste of Hokkaido's fresh local products when you travel around the island. Do not forget the "Ofuro" experience, taking a bath in a hot spring resort, which makes you feel like in heaven.
Since we have seven national park range registered in Hokkaido, it is almost like the island itself is a natural theme park. But be careful when you go trekking in a deep forest, not to meet up with a big wild bear.
So, one step out of the conference site, there are so many things to do, places to see.
Hotels and restaurants accept credit cards so don't worry and make your stay longer! |
